FEMA Declares Individual Assistance for Kerr County Flood Survivors
Essential Application Tips Issued to Maximize Recovery Aid: Survivors Encouraged to Apply Immediately
KERR COUNTY, TX – JULY 9, 2025 – The Kerr Together Long Term Recovery Group (LTRG) and local emergency management officials are urging residents to apply immediately for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) following the recent flood declaration. This declaration opens the door for federal disaster assistance funds to help residents offset disaster-related expenses.
Individual Assistance can provide financial help or direct services to individuals and households who have sustained damage to their primary residences and personal property.
How to Apply for FEMA Assistance
Survivors should apply as soon as possible through one of the following methods. The process should take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
- Online: Visit the FEMA website to get started.
- By Telephone: Call (800) 621-3362 (7am to 11am ET, 7 days per week)
- Mobile App: Download the FEMA weather app from the Google PlayStore or the Apple Store to apply and upload photos/receipts.
Expert Tips to Avoid Application Delays
The application contains several key questions that can trigger immediate and essential funding. To avoid delay and ensure you receive the assistance you qualify for, the LTRG recommends the following application tips:
- “Do You Have Emergency Needs?” Answer YES. This question covers immediate needs during or since the disaster (e.g., lack of food/water due to power loss, medication needs, clothing, temporary shelter). Saying YES can qualify you for immediate funds like Serious Needs Assistance (SNA), which is currently set at $770.
- Is your home accessible or habitable? Answer NO if debris, structural damage, or lack of essential utilities (power, water) prevents you from safely staying in your home. Answering NO triggers the ability to receive assistance to pay for temporary lodging.
- Are your utilities out? Answer YES even if your utilities were out for only a few days. This can trigger assistance funds to help cover energy costs or fuel for a generator.
- Are you willing to relocate? Answer YES if you cannot live in your home due to damage or power loss. This question means you are willing to stay in a hotel or apartment temporarily and triggers funding for temporary housing. It is not asking if you are willing to move away from the area permanently.
- Generator Reimbursement: FEMA may reimburse survivors up to $629 for the purchase or rental of a generator, but you must submit the receipt. The generator must have been used to power a medically-required or life-sustaining appliance, equipment, or refrigerator for prescribed medication.
The LTRG urges all residents impacted by the July floods to apply immediately, even if they have insurance. FEMA assistance may cover losses not covered by your policy.
Disaster Number: DR-4879 (Central Texas Floods, July 2-18, 2025).
General Deadline: September 28, 2025, at 11:59pm ET for homeowners, renters, and businesses.
