Pet Recovery & Animal Care Resources
The bond between pet owners and their animals is essential to the healing process. This hub provides resources to ensure the safety, care, and reunification of animals impacted by the Kerr County floods.
Lost Pet Protocols
Our primary goal is to reunite pets with their families. If your pet is missing, follow these steps right away.
- Report missing pets: Post to the official lost and found list and include recent photos, description, microchip number (if chipped), last-seen location and time, collar and tag descriptions, and temperament information. Connect with Kerrville Pets Alive! (KPA) for more local resources.
- Notify local shelters and vets: Share your flyer and contact info, and check in daily for new intakes.
- Search smart: Walk and drive at dawn and dusk, bring a leash and treats, call softly, and check under decks, sheds, culverts, and favorite spots.
- Post signs and share on social: Post high-contrast flyers near the last-seen area and major intersections. Share a social media post to neighborhood groups and community pages.
- Update your microchip registry: Confirm contact info is current and flag the pet as missing.
- Report sightings: Ask neighbors to photograph sightings and send the location and time of the sighting. Avoid chasing animals and note the direction of travel.
Found Pet Protocols
If you have found a pet, follow these steps right away.
- Contain safely: Use a leash or crate if the animal is friendly. Avoid handling if the animal is injured or fearful.
- Scan for a microchip: Most vet clinics and shelters will scan at no charge.
- Report found pets: Post clear photos and the exact found location and time to the official lost and found list courtesy of Kerrville Pets Alive! so the owner can match details.
- Check for local reports: Compare with recent “lost” posts and contact the listed owners.
- If you cannot hold the animal: Contact [local animal services and shelters (anchor to the listing grid below)] for pickup instructions. Follow their guidance on temporary care and transport.
Finding a Deceased Pet
If you have found a deceased pet, do not handle the animal. Keep people and other pets away. Contact the appropriate authorities based on the time and location of discovery.
- Kerr County Sheriff’s Office (non‑emergency): After-hours guidance and dispatch direction at 830-896‑1216.
- Kerr County/City Animal Services: Safe handling and removal protocol at 830-257-3100.
- City Public Works/Animal Control (if within city limits): Record the location, date/time, and any tags to assist authorities at 830-258-1515.
